Love for Sale eBook Clifford Thompson

Every page of this book makes me realize how little time I spend thinking. This author clearly thinks and thinks clearly. No vampires or fairy tale characters, just musings from the mind of an interesting, real, person about everything from Jazz to parenthood to the great authors of the 20th Century. Reading what he has to say on each subject, all the details I would otherwise have missed, shames me into realizing how little mental work I do these days.

Love for Sale eBook Clifford Thompson Reviews

Blending the authors love of history, engaging conversation pieces and music, readers are given the treat that is Clifford Thompson's LOVE FOR SALE. The book is a great collection of his thoughts about jazz and its influence as well as issues that are not always easy to tackle such as race relations and bigotry. What matters the most to me is the way the author goes about writing this book and addressing these issues. He presents his well-written essays in such as a way that you are drawn in by his writing style initially but then get engrossed in the subject matter.

Will you agree with everything? I don't believe so. But I did like the way he was able to be thoughtful and practical while at the same time making his case for subject in a well-written and well-respected way. Clifford Thompson has a gift, and that gift shines brightly in this compilation. LOVE FOR SALE lets up into the writer's personal passions, and we are able to take a ride with him through each and every chapter.
Cliff Thompson effortlessly penned a brilliant collection of essays which reveal themselves to be thought provoking, inspirational, witty and provocative. Mr. Thompson is a true master of language as well as a gifted story teller and gifted painter (the cover art is a painting of his!). This is WELL worth your time and money. Buy it. Love it. Share it.
A wonderful collections on a wide range of topics, particularly musings on the arts. Thompson is a jazz and film aficionado so there are quite a few essays on his favorite musicians and recordings as well as appreciations (or disparagements) of particular filmmakers or trends in film. His honest appraisal of current authors caused me to add quite a few novels to me "to-read" list. Thompson's identity as an African American in the post-Civil Rights era is key in several pieces, as he ruminates on how to deal with racism that is not as obvious but still impacts him (and, by extension, society as a whole). Throughout, the author's gentle humor and deep sense of humanity and curiosity come through. Well worth a read.
This book made me think and integrated information from a myriad of subjects. I learned a lot, and enjoyed this thoughtful journey.
Thoughtful, intelligent essays.
