From Surviving To Thriving A Woman Guide to Success and SelfLeadership in the Workplace eBook Sarah Cordner
I enjoyed the author's personable, human writing style. She offers excellent reflections for you on your passions (using your strengths and talents) & values. I love that she frames values as an undercurrent in your life--not something you can turn off as you walk through corporate doors and try to flip a new switch for the work version of you.She includes many exercises that you do alongside the book in a success journal. I think they could look very simple if you skim the book. Yet if you actually do them, there's some deep stuff going on. One of my favorites is the section on core needs. You identify yours and you map them to your current role to check alignment and make a plan from there.
She gives excellent examples of common limiting beliefs and what to do about them. For example, one is how we often dismiss things like working on our personal branding because "we're not a piece of merchandise." Her examples and responses are quite grounded and realistic. I love that it is not a stilted desk reference.

From Surviving To Thriving A Woman Guide to Success and SelfLeadership in the Workplace eBook Sarah Cordner Reviews
Sarah speaks from her experience and knowledge both of which are tremendous. She has carefully curated information from diverse sources and crafted it into a practical handbook that can be used to analyze self behavior and build a practical corrective plan. She includes detailed checklists and plans to guide you through the process.. The voice and tone are friendly, like that of a mentor or friend. Thank you!
A practical, well-written guide about the most important areas to master in life and business, especially when starting out but really throughout life. I enjoyed Sarah's no-nonsense approach, stories and candid advice to overcome self-sabotage and mediocrity. She talks about discovering one's strengths and playing to them. The book is easy to read and although much of the material was familiar, it felt very genuine, coming from experience not theory. And just what I wish I'd had a few decades ago, all the timeless truths compactly brought together in one book. Will recommend.
Chapter 6, Your Beliefs, is definitely a standout chapter in this thoughtfully written book about women thriving in the workplace (one I'm definitely going to reread and make notes to keep close). I wish I had Sarah Cordner's advice and wisdom early in my career, but more than that, I wish I knew how to think this way long before I started college. Lots of trial and error- mostly error and digging back out- got me to where I am today, but it doesn't have to be like that for young women today, especially if they read this book sooner rather than later.
This is a great book on empowerment and learning to be positive! It offers practical advice and wisdom on how to rise above adversities and become a better person. I don't necessarily see this book as one that only women would appreciate - this book is a great fit for anyone struggling with low self-esteem in the workplace, or for anyone looking for personal success when they haven't found it yet.
This book looks at everything from your limiting beliefs to your values and motivations and offers ways to help you recognize how you sabotage your life and create doubts in your mind. I especially liked the exercises and journaling that went along so you can apply this directly to yourself and your situations.
Really, get this book if you suffer from self doubts or struggle with overcoming your own self limits - it will change how you see things and improve your life if you let it!
I was really surprised by this book. The writing was good, it was highly readable and had some really great concepts. Some of these concepts were from sources other than the author herself, and I happily lapped up the "Cliff Notes" or most important tidbits from other people's work that may have otherwise taken me hours to read and harvest. This book is not just for career women, as I had first thought, it is for any woman who feels like she needs to get unstuck in her life. The principles in this book are so widely applicable that I would recommend it to men too! I love that it's not too long, you get the meat of the matter in no time at all. Thank you for not wasting my time!
This is a practical guide for women in the workplace, and one that I'd wish I'd had access to during my early 20's! The chapter on beliefs resonated the most with me, with a lot of the concepts presented getting me to nod my head in agreement as I read. It's amazing how our thoughts can control our outcomes so much.
The author provides a lot of exercises and solutions to many common problems women find in the workplace and I love the practicality of being able to put them in practice straight away.
In her book, Surviving To Thriving, Sarah provide a success manual for women. I wish I’d had this book when I was starting out in my IT career (more than 20 years ago). I’m now a Stay-At-Home Mom and Entrepreneur. Yet I still found many nuggets of wisdom in this book that applied to my life as a business woman.
For example, the sections on identifying your Motivating Force (my core needs are Significance, Growth and Contribution), your Values, and your Beliefs are enlightening. Although I’d read these ideas before, this book links everything together. It helped me connect the dots and figure out what I need to do to reach a new level of success.
What I most appreciated is how clearly laid out the concepts are. Each chapter asks you to take action. There’s no fluff – just clear advice backed by interesting examples from women like you and me.
I recommend Surviving To Thriving to women of all ages (even if you’re not currently in the workplace). It will help you change your life for the better. Give it a go!
